Gulf War syndrome is a chronic, multi-symptom condition that seems to affect veterans of the 1990-1991 Gulf War, which would explain the name. The cause of this condition was under debate for quite some time. The condition was originally attributed to the stress of combat, but after hours of research many believe that simply isn't the case. The cause is currently believed to be exposure to toxic chemicals.

According to a 2008 article1 published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences the illness can be attributed, in part, to the veterans' exposure to chemicals such as organophosphate and carbamate acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. In addition to these chemicals, the soldiers were also given anthrax vaccines. This early version of the vaccination had various side effects which included the symptoms of Gulf War syndrome.

Similar to CFS and FM, Gulf War syndrome has the following symptoms,

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Muscle/joint pain
  • Anxiety/Depression
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Cognitive dysfunction
  • Respiratory issues
  • Skin disorders
  • And more!

Unfortunately, some individuals view this as an untreatable disorder, along with CFS and FM, but here at Holtorf Medical Group, individuals with this condition have found relief with some of our treatments such as Ozone IVs, Ozone UVI, and various bio-identical hormones.
