Morgellons disease is a dermatological disease that is the result of fibers underneath, embedded in, and erupting from unbroken skin or slow-healing sores. Varying species of the Lyme spirochete bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi and co-infecting pathogens have been found within bodily fluids and specimens collected from Morgellons patients. Individuals suffering from Morgellons may experience symptoms similar to that of Lyme disease, including those within the musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular systems.
It is important to note that although this disease is a form of an infection, there is no evidence that it is contagious.
